Some members of the Elections Commission have voted against Commissioner of Elections Fuwad Thaufeeq signaling that they have lost confidence in him.
Vice Chairperson of the Commission Ismail confirmed this via Twitter today.
He said that 3 members of the Commission have voted against the Commissioner saying that they were not happy with how he is running things. Habeeb said that the vote was taken on the 18th of this month at the Commission's749th General meeting.
Habeeb clarified that though 3 members have lost confidence in the Commissioner, this vote does not mean that Fuwad would lose his post as the Commissioner as the member does not have the legal power to remove him from the post.
He added that only the Parliament has the power to remove the Commissioner of Elections from his position.
The vote against the Commissioner came after he was accused of using his influence to fast-track the registration of the newly formed The Democrats led by the Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed.
