A team of Doctors from IGMH's National Center for Respiratory Medicine has removed a whistle from the right lung of a child this month.
This was revealed by IGHM Physician Dr. Mohamed Ali who said that the team removed a soft toy whistle from the right lung of an older child.
Dr. Mohamed Ali said via Twitter that the child was trying to impress a younger child by producing sound by keeping the whistle between the lips. He further said that this turned into a frightful event when the child accidentally inhaled the toy in the lungs.
The social media friendly Doctors shared a picture of the whistle that was removed and placed next to a 1 ml syringe to compare the size of the foreign object removed from the lungs.
He mentioned that the team got excellent input from the Radiology team and great coordination by Anaesthesiologists.OT Staff and Pediatricians.
The Doctor warned that it is not safe to keep objects in the mouth/between the lips which might lead to inhalation into the lungs.
IGMH Doctors have removed pieces of rocks, plastic, and pins from the patients' breathing tubes before.
