Newly formed The Democrats have announced that Speaker of the Parliament and former President Mohamed Nasheed would sign for the party at a rally on Thursday.
The Party said that the rally would be held at the Artificial Beach on Thursday and that it would begin around 08:30 pm. It added that members of the public are also invited to sign for the party at the rally.
Speaking more about the rally on Sangu TV's 'Khabarah Fahu' program, MP for Medhuhenveiru Constituency Ali Azim said that many members are expected to sign up for the party on Thursday and that there would be some familiar faces too.
MP for Hithadhoo Constituency Ahmed Rasheed is expected to be among them. He left ruling MDP on the same day Nasheed left the party he help found over 17 years ago.
Tweeting his resignation letter, Nasheed said that he resigned from the party seeing that it was not best that he remained with the party in the current situation.
When he left MDP, Nasheed had been the President of the party.
