Speaker of the Parliament and former President Mohamed Nasheed has invited former President and Opposition Presidential Candidate Abdullah Yameen to work together and defeat President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in the September Presidential Elections.

He said this while speaking at the inaugural political gathering of 'The Democrats' last night.

Nasheed who recently left MDP said that the people do not like the administration of President Solih and they are hoping for a change.

He further said that the responsibility of changing the administration now falls on the shoulders of the opposition parties.

The former President said that if all the political parties band together and hold discussions, there is no doubt that a solution can be found.

Nasheed then proceeded to give details about a poll taken about voter preferences ahead of the election but did not reveal the nature of the poll.

He said that 55 percent of the voters are undecided about who to choose for their next President while 15 percent are leaning toward the President. He further said that 18 percent want Yameen as their next President and another 6 percent would choose Nasheed himself.

Nasheed praised Yameen in his speech last night and before ending his remarks he invited the former President to work together in the future.

He said that he never wished for anyone to be jailed and that Yameen is an individual who has served the country in different capacities including as a President, as a Parliamentarian, as a Minister, etc.

Nasheed said that he believes that both of them should not compete in the Presidential elections but work together to bring about the changes the people of the country are waiting for.
