President's Chief of Staff Ali Zahir says the President has asked the Opposition Coalition to submit any abuse allegations of jailed ex-President Abdullah Yameen to the relevant agencies.
He said this in a letter addressed to the President of PNC Abdul Raheem Abdullah (Adhurey) who had yesterday submitted a handwritten letter to the President's Office requesting a meeting with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to discuss the alleged abuse of Yameen among other things.
In his reply, Zahir said that President Solih does not believe that there is any truth to the allegations of abuse of the former President. He further said that Yameen is serving a legal sentence and that sentence has nothing to do with President Solih.
Zahir further said that it does not make sense for President Solih to meet with anyone to discuss Yameen while the former President is serving a jail sentence.
He added that the President had urged the opposition to report the allegations of abuse to the relevant agencies.
The President's Chief of Staff only addressed one of the issues mentioned in Adhurey's letter. He did not address opposition allegations that the government has been selling land and waters as well as the accusations that President Solih brought the Parliament to a standstill.
Speaking outside the President's Office yesterday, Adhurey insisted that the opposition would not cease their attempts to meet the President unless they receive a reply to the letter or get a meeting with the President.
He said that if the President is willing to bear the responsibilities of the Presidency, he must meet with the opposition and hear out their concerns too.
