President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is to start his presidential campaign after Eid Al-Adha and aims to visit all the inhabited islands in the Maldives.

During this mass campaign, President himself will visit islands and meet locals to promote his ideology, stated Ruling MDP.

President Solih is the presidential candidate for ruling MDP.

MDP further stated that its campaign teams will aim in gathering ideas, information for the completing of presidential manifesto. The manifesto is yet to be finalized. As Adaalath and Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) are coalition partners with MDP, the manifesto would be a collective manifesto with inputs from the partners.

Meanwhile, the MDP is scheduled to officially launch the campaign after the Eid holidays, but the venue has not yet been finalized.

Other than MDP, Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and Jumhooree Party (JP) will contest in the upcoming election. Also former home minister Umar Naseer and former Attorney General Dr. Mohamed Munavvaru also announced to compete. JP is in existing coalition with current government but has decided to compete alone.

The upcoming Presidential election round one is scheduled to be held on September 9th. If no candidate wins a clear majority, second round will take place on September 30th, 2023.
