MP for Addu Meedhoo Constituency Rozaina Adam accuses Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed of threatening and intimidating MPs.
She said this after tweeting a video that showed Nasheed confronting the MP for Hulhumale Constituency Ali Niyaz in the parliament courtyard today.
In the video, Nasheed hastily walks up to Niyaz who was sitting at one of the tables and appears to say something to the MP in anger. The Speaker's words are unclear but his gestures at the MP and his walk back showed that he was clearly upset.
With the video, MP Rozaina tweeted that the Speaker threatening and intimidating MPs inside the legislative house is a concerning matter. She insinuated that Nasheed was threatening the MPs because of the no-confidence motion filed against the deputy Speaker of the Parliament MP Eva Abdullah.
It has been speculated that Nasheed was speaking to MP Niyaz about the actions of MP for Thinadhoo Uthuru Constituency Abdul Mughnee who appear to address the Speaker in derogatory terms during a confrontation on the floor of the parliament the other day.
The accusation of intimidation comes against Nasheed on a day when MDP MPs voted to collect signatures to submit a no-confidence motion against the Speaker.
