Members of the Opposition Coalition leadership have met with the Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed over the Chagos dispute which the government claims is a huge victory for the Maldives.

Earlier this month, the ITLOS supported the Maldives’ stance while concluding the dispute between the Maldives and Mauritius on the overlapping maritime boundary issue.

The verdict favored the Maldives in its claim, according to 47232 sq kilometers - the larger portion of the overlapping area- to the Maldives.

But many are saying that with this decision, the Maldives is ceasing part of its EEZ to implement this decision.

Several political parties have banded together to voice out their concerns about the decision taken by the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITOLS).

Nasheed too has voiced his concern over the Chagos dispute and discussed the issue with the opposition today.

PPM Vice President Ahmed Shiyam, PNC President Abdul Raheem Abdullah and MP for Mahibadhoo Constituency Ahmed Thoriq took part in the meeting with Nasheed.

Meanwhile, former STO MD Hussain Amr accompanied Nasheed as representatives of the 'Fikureh ge Dhirun' faction of the ruling MDP.

The Opposition said that the meeting held at the Parliament building was vital and that the Opposition has been meeting with organizations and individuals over the Chagos dispute and that they met with Nasheed in this regard.

The Opposition added that Nasheed too believe that the Administration has done wrong by the people in the Chagos matter.
