MNDF Coast Guard has rescued the crew of the merchant vessel that was reported missing earlier today.
The vessel named 'Savaaree' was reported missing this morning after departing from Male' with stops in Meemu Atoll and Vaavu Atoll.
The Coast Guard launched a search and rescue mission to locate the vessel and confirmed that it was working via sea as well as air.
In its latest update, MNDF said that one of its Coastguard ships has now rescued the crew of six. Initially, it was reported that the vessel traveled with a crew of 4 but MNDF confirmed that 6 individuals have been rescued and that they were all healthy.
MNDF also said that as per the captain of the vessel, the vessel has now sunk into the sea.
It did not reveal why the vessel was lost in the first place and why it subsequently sank.
The weather across the country has now changed in the last 24 hours with rough seas and heavy rain expected.
