Police have arrested a man for alleged sexual harassment of a 13-year-old girl on a southern island.
Police said that the case was reported on the 12th of this month and that the arrest was made the next day. They said that a 33-year-old man was arrested in relation to the case and that the suspect was apprehended under a court-issued arrest warrant.
Police also said that the suspect was a person in a position of authority for the child and that they were further investigating the case.
This is the second case of sexual harassment that surfaced from a southern island within the last 24 hours.
In a case that was reported last night, two men were arrested for the alleged sexual harassment of an 11-year-old girl.
Police said that one of the suspects was 25 years old while the other was 63 years old. Police added that they were further investigating the case.
Such cases have been on the rise once again in the Maldives with Police reporting 27 such cases in January of this year alone.
