Former Managing Director of State Trading Organization STO Hussain Amr says he tried in his capacity to reform the current government but the government to refused to accept his efforts.

He said this in a two-page statement he issued today via Twitter.

In the statement, Amr said that he had to choose a different path because of the government's reluctance to change and its lack of enthusiasm for the reforms needed within the government.

Amr noted that several loyal MDP supporters have now isolated themselves from the party and they have done so not because they had confusion about the party policies.

The Ex-MD noted that just like the other members of the party, he too had fulfilled many roles within the party and that he played a part in compiling the 2018 MDP manifesto. Amr said that he gave priority to maintaining the policies in the manifesto and making sure that the essence of the manifesto was not lost.

In a scathing attack, Amr accused the government is wasteful with funds, and mismanagement of projects has caused them to be delayed and forced the government to spend more than first estimated.

He further accused the government of doing tasks that must be completed and taking on debt at major costs.

Amr said that he worked to reform the government and voiced his concerns via text messages and letters but that the government was unresponsive.

Amr was relieved of his duties as the MD of STO last month and the government said that this was part of its plans to restructure the company to further enhance its performance.

But Amr is the first head of an SOE who publically supported the Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed in the MDP primary held in January.
