The Elections Commission has confirmed that the Presidential Election tabled for this year would be held on the 9th of September 2022.
The Commission confirmed this at a press conference held today.
It said that while the first round of the President Election is scheduled for September 9th, if the election goes to another round, the second round would be held on 30th September.
The Commission further said that it would be publishing the Voters' list on May 2nd and would continue to accept complaints until 2nd June giving the voters a month to file complaints.
Elections Commission revealed that those who wish to compete in the election can apply for their candidacy between July 23rd to August 3rd and that the candidates would be given a candidate number on the 9th of August.
The Commission said that candidates would be able to campaign starting the next day until the 7th of September.
It further said that candidates would be allowed to have representatives at the ballot boxes and that the official results would be announced within 7 days of the election.
The Elections Commission also confirmed that 600 ballot boxes would be placed across the country including 340 in Male' alone. It added that there would be 47 ballot boxes in Hulhumale', 10 in Villmale', 327 boxes in the Atolls, and 4 in the jails.
