The Maldivian Parliament has paid a tribute to the Late Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning British monarch and head of the Commonwealth. The Queen, whose rule spanned seven decades, passed away last Thursday at the age of 96.
Before the Parliament session today, Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed requested all the MPs present to stand for a minute of silence to pay tribute to the late Monarch.
Following her death, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih declared on Thursday that the national flag is flown at half-mast in mourning following the passing away of the beloved Queen.
He had also decided that the Maldives would observe three days of mourning with the national flag flown at half-mast from September 9-12, 2022. Queen Elizabeth II is a recipient of the Maldives’ highest honor, the Grand Order of the Distinguished Rule of Ghaazee.
Buckingham Palace had announced that the Queen's state funeral will take place at Westminster Abbey on Monday 19 September.
However, Her Majesty will be buried in her in Windsor, in the King George VI memorial chapel.
