Maldives Bureau of Statistics says foreigners make up 53 percent of the country's youth population.

In statistics released on the occasion of Internationa Youth Day, the Bureau said that in the Maldives, youth are considered those between the ages of 18-35. But it said that the international youth age is between 15-24 years.

It said that currently there are 579,330 individuals who are considered youth in the Maldives and that they make up 45 percent of the total population.

The Bureau gave a further breakdown saying that there are 97,039 individuals between the ages of 15-24 and that there are 258,923 individuals between the ages of 18-35 years.

It said that out of the youth population in the Maldives, only 47 percent are youth and that the rest of the 53 percent of youth in the Maldives are foreigners.
