Tourism Minister Abdullah Mausoom says there is little chance of reopening the Shangri-la resort in Addu City this year.
The resort closed its doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic and this led to many losing their jobs in the city.
Speaking on a program aired by Raaje TV last night, the Minister said that though he had unofficial confirmation on the date the resort would be reopened, he was not prepared to make it official based on it.
Minister Mausoom said that the resort's operator Addu Investment Pvt Ltd would be the best source to get confirmation on the date.
He further said that it would be highly unlikely that the resort is reopened after the completion of the current renovation work underway at the resort.
The Minister also said that once the resort is reopened, it would highly benefit Addu's economy and that he hopes that the resort would reopen soon.
