MP for Maavashu Constituency and former Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed has voiced his concerns over the rising prices of essential goods in the country.

MP Saeed pointed out that state-owned fisheries company MIFCO has raised the prices of canned tuna cases by MVR 150 and the government's decision does not make sense.

He questioned the government about the record number of free aid the administration has boasted about while it keeps raising the prices of essential goods.

MP Saeed further criticized the administration by saying that the government is creating a debt situation that does not warranty its financial situation and all the while had been hiking the cost of essential services.

He accused the government of printing notes and then spending them on political activities.

His criticism follows MIFCO's decision to hike the price of canned tuna cases by MVR 150 citing the rise in the cost of goods in the global market.

While many had voiced concerns about the decision, they have also been speaking out about the government's decision to ban some plastic goods in the country.
