Islamic Minister Dr. Ahmed Zahir has been tasked with leading this year's Hajj Pilgrims of the Maldives.
This came after President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih appointed the Minister, as the Amir al-Hajj of the Maldives’ Hajj pilgrims for this year.
The President chooses Ministers and government officials from his administration to lead each year's hajj pilgrims. In 2019, Planning Minister Mohamed Aslam led the pilgrims as it was the last time the Maldives was able to send pilgrims to Hajj due to the COVID pandemic.
This year, Saudi Arabia had given the Maldives the chance to send just 435 pilgrims and Hajj Corporation had said that only 100 spots would be made available to the public.
Yesterday, the Corporation had begun accepting applications for the 100 spots and would be accepting applications till 06:00 pm of the 2nd of June.
The Corporation aims to take the draw for the spots on the 2nd too.
