The President's Office has confirmed that State Minister of Education Ministry Ahmed Riyaz has been suspended.

Presidential Spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Azeez said that the President's Office has instructed the Education Ministry to suspend the State Minister due to a matter currently under review.

While the President's Office has not confirmed the nature of the review, reports have alleged that State Minister Riyaz was suspended due to a sexual harassment case.

But as the newspaper was unable to contact the State Minister, these allegations are yet to be confirmed.

Top officials from this government had been suspended or in some cases fired due to sexual harassment allegations before and the most notable case was that of the former Tourism Minister Ali Waheed.

The ex-Minister, currently in hiding in the UK, had been accused of sexually harassing several female employees at the Ministry and the State has since filed criminal charges against Waheed based on these allegations.
