Transport Minister Aishath Nahula says 15 cases in which taxi drivers had charged higher than legal fares had been submitted to the Police.
The Minister said this in her written response to the queries made by MP for Thimarafushi Constituency Abdullah Riyaz.
MP Riyaz had highlighted that it's difficult to find taxis in the Male' and had inquired about what the government intends to do to ease the situation.
In her written response, Minister Nahula said that taxi centers have been instructed to take action against drivers who fail to abide by the laws and regulations.
Nahula also said that the Ministry had instructed the taxi services APP to modify the design in a way that the taxi driver is unable to view the passengers' destination before taking the fare.
The Minister further said that the APP services had been asked to update the information that can only be viewed by the Ministry and Police.
She said that the Minister had probed 57 cases in which the drivers had charged higher than legal fares and that 15 of those cases had been filed with the Police.
