Police have today arrested former MP for Hoarafushi Constituency Mohamed Ismail due to the anti-India activities carried out under the slogan 'IndiaOut'.

Police had also said that they had arrested an opposition activist because of the same charge and that the former MP was arrested under a court order.

Police further said that the duo was arrested for organizing anti-India rallies and for using the colors of the Indian national flag and symbols to depict anti-India sentiments within the public.

They also accused the suspects of putting up banners, drawings, and writings that read or implied the slogan 'IndiaOut' and of distributing such items within Male and to the Atolls.

Police said that they were further investigating the case.

The Opposition has been putting up huge banners in different locations in Male' in their campaign calling for the withdrawal of Indian troops deployed in the Maldives.

But since then, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had issued a decree stating that any activities under the slogan is banned as the campaign is detrimental to the country's national security.
