President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced the new salary structure for the education sector as he fulfills one of the pledges the President had made in his annual address to the parliament this year.
Announcing the new structure today, President Solih said the most important reason for the change is to allow for better take-home pay to teachers without including overtime allowances.
He said that with this change, the take-home pay is much better with just basic pay and allowances than their salaries with overtime pay.
President Solih said that the government would follow the new salary structure in May and that this administration pays special attention to the education sector to ensure that the next generation is intelligent and kind. He noted the efforts made by teachers and education sector workers to ensure that such a generation is cultivated.
President Solih highlighted that each nation's developmental status is dependent on its ability to build human resources and that in the Maldives teachers bear the brunt of human resources development.
He added these hardworking individuals are currently underpaid for the sacrifices that they are making.
President further said that the government is aiming to revamp the salary structures for all the fields including the social justice sector as well.
