The Parliament has thrown out the emergency motion submitted by the opposition calling for the dismissal of the Presidential Decree against the anti-India campaign 'IndiaOut'.

MP for Maduvaree Constituency Adam Shareef Umar had submitted the motion to the parliament on behalf of the opposition.

In the vote taken to see whether the motion should be accepted for debate at the parliament, only 5 MPs present voted in favor while 27 MPs voted to throw the motion from the parliament.

In the motion, the opposition had said that every citizen should be able to do anything that is not prohibited under the laws of Islam or under the country's laws and that this cannot be hindered.

The motion also said that any decree or law that threatens the rights guaranteed by the constituency should be null and void and this is mentioned in the law.

It also said that the government is hindering freedom of speech through police and other government agencies.

The opposition's emergency motion came after President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had issued a decree last week banning 'IndiaOut' activities saying that it threatened national security.
