President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has issued a presidential decree in which he had stated that the opposition-driven anti-India campaign "IndiaOut" is threatening national security and called for a complete halt of the activities.

This is the first time the President has issued a decree denouncing the anti-India campaign which calls for the complete withdrawal of Indian troops deployed to different locations in the Maldives.

In the decree, President Solih said that the campaign aimed at inciting hatred towards India has been deemed a national security threat by the National Security Council.

President said that it is very clear how the campaign has now become a threat to national security and that it aims to create discord and disharmony across the country.

He added that the anti-India campaign also put regional security in jeopardy.

President Solih noted that the administration aims to secure the freedom of speech and expression rights as mentioned in the constitution and uphold the values of a democratic society.

But some are taking advantage of these freedoms but the government would not allow any threat to the nation's security.

President Solih further said that with the responsibilities vested to him under Article 115, subsections (C), (D), (I), he is instructing state organizations to put a halt to the 'IndiaOut' activities from this day on.
