MP for Maduvari Constituency Adam Shareef Umar has issued a stern warning to policemen working to remove the 'IndiaOut' banners put up by the opposition to promote its anti-India campaign.

The opposition has put up huge banners in different locations in Male' in their campaign calling for the withdrawal of Indian troops deployed in the Maldives.

Banners have been placed outside the opposition's main office as well outside the residence of opposition leader and former President Abdullah Yameen.

Police have said that they had asked the President to remove the anti-India banner from his residence and have acted to remove the banners from some of the public buildings.

Tweeting on the matter, MP Shareef warned that the opposition would take legal action against policemen removing the banners and said that it would be considered illegal.

MP Shareef clarified the activities under the "Anti-India" campaign should be considered as part of freedom of expression and speech.

Police had said earlier that putting on banners that read "India Out" is disrespectful to one individual nation and can affect the international diplomatic relationship between the two countries.
