Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has aimed criticism at the MDP-led coalition government as the party prepares for internal elections.

Nasheed criticized the government in messages sent to a social media group that hosts MDP members.

He said that although the government had claimed that it had the support of the people, MDP would find it difficult to win the next presidential election.

Nasheed predicted that it would prove difficult to secure 50 percent of the vote in the next election.

He said that even if the government claims support, many mistakes have been made and that no one is taking responsibility for the mistakes.

This is the second time in a month that Nasheed had aimed criticism at the government.

Earlier he had accused the government of forgoing the MDP manifesto pledges that would take away the government's role in further developing the fisheries industry.

Nasheed pointed out that it had been clear for many days that it is not effective to have government corporations try to cultivate the industry by building ice plants and storage as well as factories.
