The Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Technology has unveiled the Maldives National Red List of threatened species.

In a tweet, it said that the list was developed according to International Union for Conservation of Nature IUCN categories and criteria to assess species into different levels of extinction risk.

The Ministry also said that this list will contribute to national species protection, management, and other conservation measures.

It noted that the National Red list is a list that categorizes species into different levels of extinction risk. The Ministry said that the list of threatened species will be used for decision-making at a national level in regards to species protection, management, and other conservation measures.

The Environment Ministry said that the first taxa assessed under the Maldives National Red list of threatened Species are Marine Reptiles with the assessment for different types of Sea Turtles now available on the Ministry's website.
