Home Minister Imran Abdullah says the government is working to better the situation in the prisons before its term ends.

The Minister made the comments while addressing the new recruits of the Custodial Management & Security program last night.

Imran said that most of the prisons in the country were not initially designed for jails. Imran that he understands how difficult it would be to house inmates in such places.

The Minister pointed out that although some buildings inside were built for the inmates, they were substandard for safeguarding human rights and does not ensure the basic rights of the inmates.

Imran assured that the government would strive to rectify the issues before the end of its term.

The Minister also highlighted that the plight of the inmate is also an issue that needs to be resolved and said that the government is working to prioritize these problems.
