The government has signed an agreement with Maldives Transport and Contracting Company MTCC towards the implementation of phase 2 and phase 3 of the “Integrated National Public Ferry Network” Project.

At the special ceremony held to sign the agreement, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Planning Zeeniya Hameed signed on behalf of the government while the CEO of MTCC Adam Azim signed on behalf of the company.

Under Phase 2 and Phase 3 of the project, the high-speed ferry network would be established on 17 islands between Noonu Atoll and Seenu Atoll.

MTCC said that it would build 65 launches to accommodate for Phase 2 and Phase 3 of the project. It further said that some of the sea vessels would have air conditioning and that they would also be easily accessible to people with disabilities.

The Company also said that the ferries would be built with space for passengers to keep their luggage and would have toilets as well.

It said that the company plans to build 149 terminals and that this includes 5 zone terminals, 31 ferry terminals as well as 113 ferry stops.

Once MTCC completes the Phase 2 and Phase 3 of the project, the 'Integrated National Public Ferry Network' would be connected nationwide.
