Health Minister Ahmed Naseem has conceded that there was corruption within the national health scheme Aasandha and had vowed to reform the system.
The Minister made the comments while answering questions from MP for Kaashidhoo constituency Abdullah Jabir at the parliament today.
MP Jabir had said that the national health scheme was rife with corruption and scams and asked what the government was doing to prevent it.
Answering this, Minister Naseem conceded that the system was corrupt and that the extent of it should be measured.
Minister Naseem said that the government was spending around MVR 1.2 billion on the health scheme right now. He noted that the scheme had several issues and that the government is working to rectify the issues.
He also said that the government is conducting discussions with Aasandha to further reform the system.
Minister Naseem added that the ministry would submit a report to the parliament after the discussions are concluded.
