Police in the Maldives has arrested an Indian national who was attempting to smuggle narcotics by sea.
Police said its drug enforcement unit and intelligence unit collaborated to conduct an anti-drug operation on the sea last night and that the man was arrested during the operation.
They had identified the man as a 37-year-old Indian national and said that he was arrested with 12 kg of drugs in possession.
Police had also said that the suspect had been arrested twice before in connection to drug-related problems. But police did not clarify why the suspect was released from custody the previous two times.
Police said that they were now investigating the latest arrest.
