President of Maldives Democratic Party MDP Mohamed Nasheed says the members of the party must not stray from its code of conduct and discipline.
Nasheed this as the National Council meeting held by the party earlier this week ended being a heated affair as members of the party were seen exchanging words with each other.
In a message to a social media group consisting of MDP members, the Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed said that both Economic Minister Ismail Fayyaz and MP Rozaina Adam are candidates competing in MDP internal elections.
He further said that MDP internal elections candidates and National Council members must all times maintain the code of conduct and discipline.
The national council meeting saw factions within the party raising their voices against each other as the hotly contested MDP Chairperson's post threatens to further divide the country's most popular political party.
The party's former spokesperson and current MP for Maafannnu Uthuru MP Imthiyaz Fahmy is competing against the current Economic Minister Ismail Fayyaz who has the support of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
