The President's Office says the administration has not decided to sell land plots to Male' residents from Hulhumale' Phase II but would be giving the lands to them freely.
The President's Office said this in response to a letter sent to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih by Male' City Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu in which he had appealed for free 1,000 land plots from hulhumale to Male' residents.
In the letter to the Mayor, the President's Office said that though President Solih had highlighted the government housing plan that includes the provision of at least 1,000 land plots from Hulhumalé and 2,000 plots from Gulhifalhu as well another 2,000 land plots that would be made available from Giraavaru Falhu, he did not indicate that these land plots would be sold to Male' residents.
The Mayor had said that he had come to know about the allocation from the media and that if this indeed is true then the government should give these land plots freely as it would like anywhere else in the country.
Earlier this year, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had declared that his administration would resolve the housing plight of Malé City residents before the end of its term.
He declared this in his Presidential Address to the parliament last month.
