Taxi drivers operating in the Greater Male' Area have threatened to stop their services if the government fails to implement the revised fares they have submitted to the Transport Ministry.

The drivers last night took part in a silent protest at Hulhumale' ruh gandu area to further raise their concerns about the rising oil prices.

The taxi centers had banded together to appeal for a change in fares amid the spike in oil prices both globally and locally by submitting a letter to the Transport Ministry requesting its approval for the fare change and further indicating that they would increase the fares if the government dallies on the decision.

The Transport Ministry responded by saying that it would take action against taxis enforcing higher prices other than the ones currently in force.

This has led the drivers to give an ultimatum to stop taxi services if the government fails to approve the fare change.
