Tourism Ministry says the country's bed capacity has now surpassed 60,000 as it looks to regain lost businesses due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Ministry's statistics show that currently there are 60,055 beds available for tourists in the country. It said that this includes 39,897 beds in 167 resorts, 17,221 beds in 851 guest houses as well as 2,937 beds in 152 safaris.
The Ministry also revealed that even though the bed capacity remains at 60,055, the operation capacity is at 54,178.
The statistics also showed that there are 5,786 in Kaafu Atoll and out of that 2,338 were from 73 guest houses in the Greater Male' Area.
Kaafu Maafushi known for its vast guest house tourism has 1,578 beds while Alif Alif Atoll has 1,586 beds for tourism.
The COVID-19 pandemic brought the country's booming tourism industry to a standstill back in 2020 when the Maldives was forced to close its borders to stop the spread of the virus.
It has since gradually regained its tourism arrivals with the numbers steadily increasing over the last year.
