Male' City Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu says he has sent a letter to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih appealing to give the 1,000 land plots allocated for Male' residents in Hulhumale for free.

In a tweet, the Mayor said that he had come to know about the allocation from the media and that if this indeed is true then the government should give these land plots freely as it would like anywhere else in the country.

The Mayor added that he has included this appeal in a letter addressed to the President.

The government has yet to acknowledge his letter.

Earlier this year, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had declared that his administration would resolve the housing plight of Malé City residents before the end of its term.

He declared this in his Presidential Address to the parliament last month.

President Solih had said that the government plans to provide over 5,000 land plots in the Greater Malé area to the residents of the city.

He said that the administration’s plan includes the provision of at least 1,000 land plots from Hulhumalé and 2,000 plots from Gulhifalhu, which would commence in June.

He added that another 2,000 land plots would be made available from Giraavaru Falhu.
