Police have arrested a man from Maafushi for the possession of alcohol.
Police said that the man was arrested in Kaafu Atoll Maafushi during a police operation based on intel that stated that some individuals were trying to smuggle alcohol into the island.
They said that they carried out the operation on the 28th of February and that Police had arrested a 24-year-old local man.
Police also said that after the suspect was apprehended in the operation carried out by Maafushi police and Police Intelligence, they discovered 72 bottles of alcohol in his possession after he was arrested.
They also said that the suspect had been sentenced to 12-days in remand custody after he appeared at the Maafushi magistrate court after he was arrested.
The Maafushi police station is currently investigating the case.
