One of the key pioneers of Maldivian Tourism, George Corbin says one of the reasons why the Maldives has become is such a popular destination is because of the kindness of its people.
Corbin made these comments upon arrival in the Maldives today to take part in the Maldives Tourism Golden Jubilee celebrations.
He was received at Velaana International airport by one of the local masterminds behind the tourism industry, the current Health Minister Ahmed Naseem, and Tourism Minister Dr. Abdullah Mausoom.
Speaking to reporters outside the airport, Corbin said that he still remembers the trip he made to the country 50 years back and is amazed by the changes that have happened over the years.
Corbin, who now works as a travel consultant, said that he appreciated the underwater beauty of the Maldives as well as the sandy white beaches and how the Atolls are distributed across the country.
Corbin said that his hope is that the Maldives is able to keep hold of its underway beauty and reefs.
He went on to reminisce how the Maldives was in the '70s and recalled that the now-congested Male' had not engine-powered vehicles back then.
Speaking to reporters, Health Minister and Tourism Pioneer Naseem said that Maldivians had played a key role in taking the country's tourism industry to its current stature.
