Home Minister Imran Abdullah says the illegal drug trade is happening every day in the Maldives and it has become common across the country now.
The Minister made these comments while speaking at the ceremony to open a police post in Baa Atoll Goidhoo.
Minister Imran said without ensuring the public's safety and security, the citizens cannot achieve economic stability and social harmony.
He said that people's lives and lifestyles have changed over the years and this is also evident in the islands too. He noted that the age-old battle against drug abuse has also left its mark on each and every island.
The Minister said that the police work should be structured to deter the dangerous masterminds behind the drug business and this is the only way the public's safety and security can be assured.
Minister Imran said that the illegal drug trade is happening across the country on a daily basis and that the whole society had fallen into the chaos and consequences of what follows such activities.
He highlighted that the law has tasked the Police with keeping the public safe from such activities and assured that the Police are sticking with the task without hesitation or boredom.
