Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed that since March 2020 more than 150, 000 pandemic cases have been reported in the Maldives.

The Agency confirmed that yesterday it had tested 5,972 samples for COVID and that 1,757 had come back positive. HPA reported that out of these cases 628 were confirmed from the Greater Male' Area where the recent spike in cases now appears to be declining with the positivity rate currently at 25 percent.

HPA said that 815 cases were reported from the inhabited islands and that 133 cases were confirmed from the operational resorts.

It said that the agency was working to determine the location of 181 cases confirmed yesterday.

The new cases take the total number of COVID cases reported in the country to a staggering 150,337 in the Maldives.

HPA had said that currently there are 17,169 active cases of the pandemic in the country and that 52 remained hospitalized for further treatment.

While 132,872 recoveries have been recorded, 283 individuals have succumbed to the pandemic in the Maldives. Most of those who have passed away from the illness include elderly locals with underlying health issues but few younger people have also died in the pandemic.

Yesterday, a 21-year-old man had passed away due to COVID while under treatment at the Hulhumale' Medical Facility.
