The government is pondering new measures against those who have not gotten their COVID booster shots despite being eligible for the third dose.
Sources have confirmed to "The Press" that the government has held discussions regarding the measures to be taken against those who have not gone for their booster doses.
It can be reported that these measures include enforcing a 14-day quarantine for those who evade the booster dose. Currently, individuals must only quarantine for 7 days.
This comes because the number of individuals going for the booster dose has decreased even though authorities had opened the booster dose for the public earlier this month.
Public Health Officials have said that the booster dose would be administered to all above 18-years of age and that it would be given to those who have completed 6 months after receiving the 2nd dose of a COVID-19 vaccine (Covisheild/Astrazeneca, Sinopharm, Pfizer).
But only 16,615 people have received the booster dose since it has been opened for the public and authorities insist that more would eligible for the third dose of the vaccine by now.
Authorities in the Maldives are administering a dose of the Pfizer vaccine as the third dose in the country.
