The list of islands currently under monitoring has now grown to 25 after Health Protection Agency HPA placed Gaafu Dhaalu Madaveli on the list today.

With the number of infections rising across the country, HPA had placed 10 islands under monitoring in the last 3 days. This includes Noonu Kudafari and Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo which were placed under monitoring yesterday.

While HPA placed 7 islands under monitoring on Saturday and this includes Vaavu Keyodhoo, Shaviyani Kanditheem, Laamu Hithadhoo, Laamu Dhanbidhoo, Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhufushi, Lhaviyani Kurendhoo, and Baa Goidhoo.

Thaa Guraidhoo was placed under monitoring on Friday.

Other islands on the monitoring list include Haa Alifu Dhidhoo, Baa Eydhafushi, Kaafu Guraidhoo, Haa Dhaalu Hanimaadhoo, Raa Ungoofaru, Gaafu Dhaalu Gahdhoo, Laamu Gan, Dhaalu Bandidhoo, Baa Dharavandhoo, Shaviyani Fonadhoo, Haa Dhaalu Nolhivaramfaru, Laamu Fonadhoo, Haa Alifu Ihavandhoo, and Kaafu Maafushi.

Yesterday, Public Health Authorities had confirmed that 74 cases of the new COVID variant Omicron had been found on 25 islands of the Maldives and that the new variant is spreading fast in the community.
