Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed that there are more than 5,900 active cases of COVID-19 in the country as the recent spike in new cases continues.

HPA last night reported 1,209 new cases across the country with 575 new cases confirmed from the Greater Male' Area alone. HPA also confirmed that the positivity rate in the capital has now reached 26 percent.

The Agency further said that 408 cases were reported from the inhabited islands in the country while it confirmed 155 new cases operational resorts and 4 cases from safaris.

HPA also said that it is yet to determine the location of 67 cases confirmed yesterday.

The new cases take the total number of COVID cases reported in the country has now reached 103,581 since March 2020.

HPA said that there are 5,975 active cases of the pandemic in the country with 26 COVID currently hospitalized for further treatment.

A total of 97,328 people have now recovered from the illness.

The global pandemic has killed 265 individuals in the Maldives.
