Sri Lankan authorities have postponed the match between Sri Lanka and the Maldives in the 'Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa Trophy 2021” football tournament.
The match scheduled to kick off in about an hour was postponed due to bad weather currently affecting major parts of the Island Nation.
The four nations tournament is yet to commence as today's other match between Bangladesh and Seychelles was also postponed due to bad weather.
Lankan authorities had said that this match would be played tomorrow afternoon if weather permits.
The Maldives was scheduled to play its second match against Bangladesh on the 11th of this match and play its 3rd match against Seychelles on the 14th of this month.
With today's delay, the timings of the other matches are likely to change.
The match between Sri Lanka and the Maldives was postponed after President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih traveled to Sri Lanka to officiate the opening ceremony of the tournament and watch the match.
President Solih is scheduled to hold official talks with the Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and President Gotabaya Rajapaksa during his visit.
The President and First Lady will return to the Maldives on Wednesday, 9 November 2021.
