Police say the migrant worker arrested in relation to the gruesome murder of local businessman Mahmood Abubakar of Alifu Dhaalu Dhagethi has been remanded in custody for another 15 days.

Police had said yesterday that the male migrant worker was arrested under an arrest warrant on suspicion of murder. Police had earlier searched the house in which the suspect lived along with an elderly local man who was under the care of the arrested foreigner.

It had been confirmed that Dhagethi Magistrate Court had ruled to remand the foreign in custody for another 15 days.

Reports have also said that the man is currently under Police custody at Dhagethi Police Station.

Mahmood was found brutally murdered and dumped in a well in an abandoned house on the island last Thursday and reports have confirmed that his arms and legs were bound by a sack when he was found.

Media reports have also said that several stab wounds were also found on the body of the 57-year-old who was well respected on the island.
