Maldives National Defense Force says the search for the missing 4-year-old who was swept at sea in a tragic accident earlier today is still ongoing.
The child was lost at sea after the launch he was traveling along with 11 others on board, had sunk off Sun Shiyam Olhuveli Resort.
Reports have said that two young children and their mother were all swept into the sea due to high tide and that one child and their mother were saved.
But tragically, the mother later died while under treatment at Guraidhoo health center after she and three others were rushed to the center.
The four-year-old remains lost at sea and MNDF had said that the search operations for the child continue into the night.
MNDF said that the vessel had sunk 1 nautical mile southeast of Olhuveli Resort and that the child was wearing a black T-shirt when the four-year-old was separated from his mother.
MNDF also said that its Coast Guard ship Shahid Ali was now in the area and urged seafarers and nearby islands in the area to keep a lookout for the lost child
The Maldives Meteorological Services the Met Office has been issuing yellow alerts for the whole country all day and had warned that the weather would continue to be bad for the next 24 hours.
It had said that waves surges are likely and urged seafarers to take all necessary action when traveling.
