Maldives National Defense Force MNDF says the body of its fallen soldier Lance Corporal Mohamed Sulthan has been brought to the Maldives after he died on Saturday while undergoing physical training in India.
The 22-year-old soldier who was undergoing training at the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Pune, India collapsed and died during a training activity on Saturday afternoon.
MNDF had said that the fallen soldier would be given a state funeral and that his funeral would be held after Magrib prayers tonight.
Meanwhile, the Armed Forces also confirmed that a postmortem was not performed on the body of the Lance Corporal and that this was due to a request by his family.
After his tragic death, the NDA had issued a statement saying that he had collapsed during an organized training activity at the National Defence Academy on September 25.
It also said that despite best efforts the cadet could not be revived and that a post mortem will be conducted to ascertain the cause of death.
But MNDF said today that no post-mortem was performed on his body and this was done to honor a request by his family.
