Maldives National Defense Force MNDF says its soldiers stood in silence after their morning muster parade today to honor their fallen comrade Lance Corporal Mohamed Sultan who died while undergoing physical training in India.

The 22-year-old soldier who was undergoing training at the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Pune, India collapsed and died during a training activity on Saturday afternoon.

MNDF said that soldiers at all the units and area commands had stood in silence during the morning muster parade to honor the fallen soldier.

Meanwhile, the NDA in India had released a statement saying that the Lance Corporal had collapsed during an organized training activity at the National Defence Academy on September 25.

It also said that despite best efforts the cadet could not be revived and that a post mortem will be conducted to ascertain the cause of death.

NDA had also said that the cadet had reported to NDA on March 12 as part of the 145 courses and was in the second term.

The Acadamy informed that a Court of Inquiry has been ordered to investigate the incident.
