Maldives National Defense Force MNDF says a fuel barge has run aground off Shaviyani Atoll Noomaraa today.
MNDF said that the barge named ' Mekunu' of FSM was traveling with five aboard and that it had been carrying a huge load of both petrol and diesel.
MNDF said that the barge had been carrying 10000 liters of diesel and 15000 liters of petrol when it had run aground west of Noomaraa.
It also said that the barge had been traveling from Shaviyani Atoll Foakaidhoo to Haa Dhaalu Neykurandhoo.
MNDF added that the barge was not leaking oil into the ocean.
