Health Protection Agency HPA says more than 262,000 people have now been fully vaccinated against the COVID pandemic here in the Maldives.
The Agency said that until the 27th of this month, 321,523 people have in the country have received the first dose of the COVID vaccine. HPA said that out of this 262,128 people had now been given the 2nd dose of the vaccine and are now fully vaccinated against the pandemic.
HPA had said that there are 6 vaccination centers and 3 mobile units in the Greater Male' Area and 176 vaccination centers in the Atolls.
Meanwhile, Health Emergency Operations Center HEOC revealed yesterday that 27 percent of the vaccine-eligible population are yet to receive even one dose of the vaccine.
Speaking at the latest press briefing by the center, HEOC Spokesperson Dr. Fathimath Nazla Rafeeq said the most effective weapon against the pandemic is vaccination and urged all who haven't received any dose of the vaccine to get their shots. Dr. Nazla also urged those who had received the first dose of the vaccine to complete their vaccination as soon as they can.
This comes as government works to kick off another massive vaccination drive across the whole country next Saturday. The government had said that the aim of this massive drive is to fully inoculate 90 percent of the vaccine-eligible population.
