President of the Elections Commissions Ahmed Shareef has resigned from his post today.

Shareef confirmed his resignation via Twitter.

He said that he has resigned as a member of the Elections Commission.

Shareef said that he is content for having worked honestly and with integrity during the last three elections held in the country.

He added that he would be seen in a role that serves the public in the future.

The former President of the Elections Commission did not reveal why he had opted to resign from his post.

Under his guidance, the commission had successfully concluded three elections including the 2018 Presidential elections, the 2019 Parliamentary election, and the latest Local Council Elections held earlier this year.
